Riethoven House: Black and White Solidity

scandinavian style wood home

About Riethoven House

The Riethoven wooden house is in a small forest in the Netherlands. The owner decided to paint it black and white, and the result is impressive. Normally we are not very enthusiastic about pine painted black because of the wood overheating, but this house is not in the South of France and it gets a lot of shadow from the surrounding trees.

Large windows ensure that the surrounding landscape is part of the backdrop, and give the impression of merging the living space with the landscape. The house has a nice balcony with a sort of bridge into the forest.

Floor Plan

The Riethoven house offers 290 m2 of living space. The inner space of the house on a ground floor is dominated by a family and lounge rooms. A dining room has an easy acces to the kitchen. Master bedroom with bathroom and closet is on a ground floor as well. Upstairs there are two extra spacious bedrooms with shared bathroom.

Two floors are connected with mezzanine, which is straight above family room. The big porch with roof is ideal for outdoor dining, even during a small drizzle in May.
